Taking a taxi - Advice for your taxi journey
In Sweden, free pricing prevails, which means that prices can vary greatly. It is your responsibility to check the prices before getting into the car. The prices are always in Swedish kronor. A good advice is to ask the taxi company if they offers fixed rates. In 2022, the price range for the highest comparative price in Stockholm was SEK 324 – 499 (survey on pricing September 2022, Transportstyrelsen).
When choosing a taxi, always check that...
- The vehicle has yellow number plates and a taximeter is installed.
- The fare information can be seen outside and inside the vehicle.
- The price given is in Swedish Crowns not euro.
- The driver's identity card is prominently displayed.
Information on price before the journey
The taxi driver must provide a binding price statement if the comparative price for the taxi journey exceeds SEK 500. If you have received a fixed price, it must be entered and visible in the taxi meter before the journey starts.
- There must always be price information on the car.
- Price information must be provided when the trip is ordered.
- The fair information is calculated for a ”typical journey”, which is one that covers a distance of 10 kilometres and takes 15 minutes.
- Free pricing applies, but as a customer, you can choose the taxi company that suits you best.
- Always request a taxi meter receipt on your journey.
Booking a taxi
Most taxi companies in Stockholm have a dedicated smartphone app. All these apps are free to download but booking a ride is of course not. For more info on pricing please visit their respective websites. Choose in the app whether you want to travel with a fixed price or taxi meter. https://www.visitstockholm.se/reseinformation/taxi-i-stockholm/
